New House, New Project

Keys

We've been living in our new house for almost two weeks and it's beginning to feel like our house. We've been very fortunate in the fact that our new house really doesn't need a lot of work done to it.

From what we can see the carpets look extremely new, and the walls look as if they've been newly painted, and they're all neutral colours which is fantastic! They also left most of the curtains, which is a huge bonus, as well as two couches, which if we're honest are in a better condition than our own!

The front room does however need curtains and some table lamps. As the room's quite neutral we wanted to introduce some colour to the room. The previous owners had left some cushions and a rug in the room, the cushions are rather nice but the rug has found a new home in our son's room as it really wasn't our taste. Our son loves this rug!!

We've noticed that a lot of the curtains and other furnishings in the house have been purchased from John Lewis, which makes things easier when trying to complement other bits and pieces with them.

I had a look at John Lewis to see if I could find some lamp shades to match the cushions and I did see some ideal shades but the price tag that went along with them wasn't so ideal! Depending on the size of the shade that you're looking for the shade would set you back £100 - £150, and we would need two of them!!

We opted for these shades from B & Q, which at £14 each were considerably cheaper!

We've now to find curtains to match, but as we've got high ceilings they're not standard length. I did price up getting some curtains made from us but at approximately £600 I don't think we'll be getting them for a while! At the moment we'll do with just the blinds.

I think I may be tempted to get my sewing machine out and made them myself, only downside of that is I'm always worried that the finished product looks as if a two-year-old's sewn them!
