What to do When Faced with Poo

b_150_100_16777215_00___images_winnie_the_pooh.png

And I'm not taking about Winnie the Pooh!

I've never had to think about 'what to do when you're faced with poo' until I became a parent. I used to avoid situations when there was the remotest possibility of having to deal with poo, most of that stems from having contracted campylobacter a good few years ago, and if you're not too sure what that is have a look here

Once you become a parent you'll obviously have to get used to the idea that you'll come in to contact with poo, and when they're first born it could be several times a day!

We did get used to the nappy changing, you don't get a choice with this one, and it just became part of our every day life until this evening when things were taken to a whole new level!

My OH is currently attending physio for a trapped nerve every Wednesday evening, which means bath duty on a Wed night is down to me. Our little lad loves his baths, we usually have a play with his toys followed by the actually washing process itself, but tonight's bath had a bit of a shock ending, we had POO in the bath, and it wasn't from me!!

I didn't know what to do at first, all our lad could hear was me saying "there's poo in the bath ... there's poo in the bath!"

I immediately lifted our little fella out of the bath, much to his annoyance, whilst I was still commenting on the poo in the bath. Once I'd wrapped him up in his towel he then saw the poo himself. He started to shriek, whilst pointing to the offending poo!

I then began to think, what do you do when faced with a poo? Do you

a) try to ignore it hoping that your OH will deal with it

b) fish it out and hope that no one's noticed

c) deal with the poo first

d) deal with your child first

I didn't think that my OH would appreciate it if I left him to deal with the poo when he returned home after physio, and I knew that I couldn't ignore it until our lad was in his bed. I had to deal with it head on and remove it from the bath!

Poo removed, I managed to get our lad off to bed, but I was still left with the thought of how to get clean the bath properly. I did scrub the bath with a bathroom cleaner, bleached it, rinsed it over and over again, and just to make sure, I detox'd on the bath.

That is one experience that I really don't want to repeat, ever, but living with a toddler means that you'll never know what tomorrow will bring, which is probably a good thing!
